Gun control: to what extent?

In light of the Virginia Tech tragedy, Virginia law makers are considering tighter gun control. They are aiming to instate tighter initiatives to keep firearms out of the hands of the mentally unstable.

I agree that gun control is necessary, but it's not the answer to crime control. I'm gonna quote my professor Al Valdez on this. He says that there are over 550 million firearms in circulation in this country, 18 millions are in the hands of law enforcement. So even if we pass laws to take the right to bare arms, there are still hundreds of millions floating around. Do the math! With over 432 million guns out there, it's not hard for a common criminal to get his hands on one through the black market. Instead of looking into banning guns, maybe law makers should focus more on preventive measures such as random searches at dormitories or security check points in universities around the country.

What's your take?

lol if everyone had a gun we would not have these "gun laws" cause if someone where to use there gun in the public everyone else would return fire, but the only problem of that would be gang wars, people would be part of a gang, then hell would break loose, but it may not happen... we don't need to extend gun laws just enforce the ones we have now cause guns don't kill people, stupid people with guns kill people. see you need to put a person behind the word gun in order for it to fire, but tech these days we don't need people any more we just let computers do it.
